Groups replace stolen food shelf donations

MINNEAPOLIS – It looks like families will get their holiday meals after all, after more than 1,500 pounds of donations bound for a Minneapolis food pantry were stolen.

Just days before its annual giveaway, police say a person who volunteered to transport the food from a staging area to the Camden Promise Food Shelf at Gethsemane Lutheran Church drove away with the donations.

Pastor Jeff Nehrbass says it’s difficult to understand “how a person can go from helping to taking.”

To replace the stolen food, Second Harvest Heartland says it will send more than 2,000 pounds of food to Gethsemane today. In addition, Cub Foods is supplying 200 hams.

Police say no arrests have been made.
