Grand Forks man accused of shooting deer rifle at roommate

GRAND FORKS - A Grand Forks man was arrested early Wednesday for allegedly shooting a deer rifle at his roommate.

Following a preliminary investigation, police believe that Travis A. Samshal, 26, fired a shot at with a 7 mm rifle at 34-year-old Leonel Franco, his roommate at 2603 S. 17th St. Apt. 5.

At 3:21 a.m., police were called to the disturbance, and determined that the bullet missed Franco, went through a closet door and into a wall where it was lodged in the electric panel.

Neither man was hurt in the altercation.

Samshal was charged with reckless endangerment and discharging a firearm in city limits.

Police recovered numerous weapons and ammunition at the scene.

The incident is still under investigation and police said more charges may be filed.
