Farmers, Crystal: Do the right thingMy husband has worked at American Crystal Sugar for 29 years, and I have worked there for 28 years. Both my husband and I have had a lot of respect for the farmers and appreciate their commitment and dedication to producing a sugar beet crop year in and year out. For that reason, we have always gone the extra mile – putting all of ourselves into our jobs.
American Crystal Sugar’s lockout of us and 1,300 other workers has left a bitter taste in our mouths. Why would they choose to do that to us? Instead of working toward a contract that is fair to the workers, the company and the farmers locked us out.
Why are you, the farmers, not standing up for us when you know we are the only ones who can operate your factories efficiently? Why isn’t American Crystal Sugar showing us the same respect we have shown them?
It’s time for both the farmers and Crystal Sugar to do the right thing and end this lockout, bring us back to work and continue negotiations until a fair contract is reached.
