Minot buyout plan takes step forwardMINOT, N.D. – An $18.7 million plan to acquire 124 residential properties in Minot heads to the North Dakota State Water Commission for funding consideration today.
The Minot Daily News reports that the Minot City Council voted Wednesday to approve the plan. It calls for voluntary buyout offers on most properties closest to existing dikes and in the path of a proposed flood protection project.
The North Dakota Legislature has given the water commission $50 million to assist with flood protection around the state.
Ward County plans to ask for $14.6 million, which would fund 70 properties. Valley City and other communities also are expected to ask for a share.
Minot initially will be seeking voluntary sales. Eminent domain is an option down the road.
