Plan to acquire Minot properties moves forwardMINOT, N.D. — An $18.7 million plan to acquire 124 residential properties in Minot heads to the North Dakota State Water Commission for funding consideration on Friday.
The Minot Daily News reports (http://bit.ly/vTgFXM) that the Minot City Council voted Wednesday to approve the plan. It calls for voluntary buyout offers on most properties closest to existing dikes and in the path of a proposed flood protection project.
The North Dakota Legislature has given the water commission $50 million to assist with flood protection around the state.
Ward County plans to ask for $14.6 million, which would fund 70 properties. Valley City and other communities also are expected to ask for a share.
The city initially will be seeking voluntary sales. Eminent domain is an option down the road.
