Christmas party planned for children of locked-out Hillsboro Crystal workersHILLSBORO, N.D. - A Traill County woman wants to organize a Christmas party for the children of locked-out American Crystal Sugar workers in Hillsboro and is looking for help.
Melinda Martin wants to be able to distribute gifts for children at the Hillsboro High School cafeteria Dec. 18, and has set up dropoff locations around the area.
“Something just hit me that Christmas is coming, and the holidays are coming, and I’ve got to do something for these kids,” she said.
Martin has received some donations through acquaintances and area businesses. She is also looking for volunteers to help coordinate the event. She is planning the party for about 100 children, up to age 18.
Anyone interested in donating toys or other gifts can drop off items at Traill Rural Water after Dec. 8, A.H. Newman and Northern Designs in Clifford; at Cenex in Portland; Napa Auto Parts, Finley Motors and Precision Electric after Dec. 6 in Mayville; and at the workers' union headquarters in Hillsboro.
More information is available by contacting Martin at (701) 488-2236 or NDDesign@polarcomm.com.
