No charges filed against former Valley City police chiefVALLEY CITY, N.D. – Dean Ross, the former police chief now running for mayor here, committed no crimes in handling city money, according to a report filed by the Barnes County State’s Attorney’s Office.
The state Bureau of Criminal Investigation looked into allegations that Ross mishandled and misappropriated funds relating to bank accounts and the sales of two pickups and several squad video camera systems.
The report, dated Nov. 23, concluded that “although some of Ross’s actions were unusual and likely not compliant with generally accepted accounting practices, nothing shows that they were criminal.”
Meanwhile, Valley City Auditor Avis Richter confirmed on Monday that Ross, who resigned as police chief in October, submitted enough signatures to qualify for the Jan. 24 recall election against Mayor Bob Werkhoven.
