Former Valley City police chief qualifies for ballotVALLEY CITY, N.D. (AP) — Former Valley City police chief Dean Ross has qualified for the ballot in the city's upcoming recall election.
Mayor Bob Werkhoven and a city commissioner are the targets of the recall election Jan. 24 that is part of political turmoil that has plagued the city of 6,600 people all year. Ross is running for Werkhoven's seat.
Ross was suspended as police chief in early September amid allegations he mishandled public money, an accusation he disputed. The city dropped its allegations when Ross stepped down later that month. He's still being investigated by the state crime bureau.
City Auditor Avis Richter tells KOVC radio that Ross submitted enough petition signatures to get his name on the election ballot.
