ND Veterans Cemetery receives grant for facelift

BISMARCK — The North Dakota Veterans Cemetery has received more than $372,000 in grant money for maintenance on the grounds.

The Bismarck Tribune reports that the grant from the Department of Veterans Affairs will be used to realign and clean grave stones and regrow grass in areas worn down by traffic and construction.

The North Dakota Veteran's Cemetery was established in 1989 and opened in July 1992. It is located 6 miles south of Mandan on a 35-acre tract of land in the Fort Abraham Lincoln State Park.

There are more than 5,000 veterans and family members buried at the cemetery. The cemetery averages approximately 400 burials per year.
