Wahpeton stabbing leads to charge of attempted murder

WAHPETON, N.D. – A 23-year-old man is charged with attempted murder after police found a woman lying in the street with stab wounds here early Friday morning.

A witness reported the stabbing at 2:58 a.m. in front of Community Homes in the 1600 block of Eighth Street North, where both the suspect and victim live, Sgt. Dan Nordick said Friday.

Police arrived and found the 26-year-old woman lying in the street with multiple stab wounds, he said.

The victim, Trista Martin of Wahpeton, was taken by ambulance to St. Francis Hospital in Breckenridge, Minn., and later airlifted to a Sanford Health facility in Fargo where she underwent emergency surgery.

Her condition was not available as of press time.

The suspect, Patrick Wayne Wolfgram, was taken into custody a short time later. Richland County prosecutors filed an attempted murder charge against Wolfgram Friday and he is being held in the Richland County Jail on $500,000 bond.

Police don’t know the motive for the attack, Nordick said. Police Chief Scott Thorsteinson said Friday evening that Wolfgram and Martin did not appear to have any kind of relation-ship other than being neighbors, prior to the incident.

Wolfgram was not believed to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs during the time of the attack.
