Arson suspected in Wahpeton house fire, Dumpster firesWAHPETON – Arson is suspected in a fire this morning at a vacant house slated for demolition to make way for a new bank, and in two Dumpster fires reported at about the same time, Wahpeton Fire Chief Dale Rubish said.
The house fire at 119 7th Ave. N. – one block off the city’s main drag – was reported shortly after 5 a.m. at about the same time a Dumpster fire was reported a block away, Rubish said.
About 10 minutes later, when firefighters were on the scene of the house fire, another Dumpster fire was reported about 10 blocks away, he said.
A state fire marshal has been called to investigate the cause of the house fire, which caused minimal damage, Rubish said. Police also are investigating, he said.
The house is scheduled to be demolished this fall to make way for a State Bank & Trust branch, he said.
No one was injured in the fires, he said.
