Perham's Stolee wins FM Half Marathon; Fergus Falls Van Wechel win top femalePerham's Thomas Stolee, an assistant cross-country coach, on Saturday won the FM Half Marathon.
It was the first time Stolee has ever won a half-marathon. The 24-year-old is a teacher and assistant coach at his alma mater, Perham, which is one of the state's top programs.
He won the race in 1:16:09.
Fergus Falls' Anna VanWechel was the race's top female finisher coming in at 1:26.25.
VanWechel, like Stolee, is a bit of a running savant. She was a two-time Division II All-American at Minnesota State Moorhead in track and field. She also was a two-time first-team conference selection for cross country.
Fargo's Mark Sailer won the 10K in 38:24 while Tricia Promersberger, also of Fargo, was the top female finisher in 43:57.
Eighteen-year-old Beezer Shime, of Thief River Falls, might have won the race of the day winning the 5K in 15:50 just ahead of Justin Weber, who finished at 15:52.
Dilworth's Brenda Anderson was the top female finisher at 20:24.
