Surveillance photos show suspect in armed robbery reported at south Fargo convenience store

FARGO – Fargo police are investigating a rush-hour armed robbery at a south Fargo convenience store this morning.

Lt. Joel Vettel said police received a report at 7 a.m. of the armed robbery at the Cenex Zip Trip store at 2501 23rd Ave. S.

Two employees were in the store when the suspect entered, pointed a pistol at them and demanded money. The suspect made off with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Vettel said the suspect came from the west and left in the same direction on foot.

“Obviously, the employees are extremely shook up about the situation,” he said.

The suspect was described as a younger male, skinnier, 5 feet, 8 inches to 6 feet tall, wearing a dark, gray hooded sweatshirt, a dark ski mask, what appeared to be some sort of scarf, light-colored sweat pants and carrying a blue and orange backpack.

The weapon was described as a black semi-automatic pistol.

Police are reviewing surveillance video and interviewing witnesses who were outside the store.

No customers were inside the store at the time of the robbery.

A K-9 unit was used and did track a scent for a while, but the suspect wasn’t found. Vettel said officers were on the scene in under three minutes and had a perimeter set up within five minutes.

Vettel said police believe it’s an isolated incident.

“We don’t feel there’s any danger at this point to the public,” he said.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call police at (701) 235-4493.
