Fire destroys car on I-94

TOWER CITY, N.D – A fire totaled a car on Interstate 94 Saturday.

The accident occurred around 5:15 p.m. Those in the car reported hearing a loud popping sound, followed by white and then black smoke coming from under the hood. They pulled the vehicle onto the shoulder and escaped to the ditch.

North Dakota Highway Patrol trooper Tom Herzig came across the car on the east-bound shoulder near Tower City. He and two truck drivers battled the blaze until the Tower City fire department arrived, but the flames engulfed and destroyed the car.

Two adults and a 3-year-old girl did not need medical assistance.
