Von Pinnon: Exciting changes coming this week in The Forum
Changes are also coming to The Forum, starting with today’s paper.
Perhaps most noticeable is a daily section called SheSays, a local large-size magazine built daily for women by women. We’ve assembled an all-star cast of staff writers and area contributors to create an informative and entertaining look at the issues and subjects most important to today’s woman, whether that involves her workplace, her home, or her relationships.
This will not be a “women’s section” of old, and it will not be “soft” news. We intend this section to empower women, who are busier and more influential today than perhaps any time in history. SheSays will be a trusted source of information for women who are smart and savvy, kind of like a girlfriend who isn’t afraid to tell it to you straight.
Oh, and men can read SheSays, too. In fact, if they know what’s good for them, they will.
Another new section coming today is Variety.
Just as its name implies, Variety will have a little bit of everything and will be different every day. Mostly, its content will be entertainment-related and filled with information about events and activities people can go and do.
Our readers routinely tell us they crave more awareness of things going on in our area they can participate in. We’ll do our best to let readers know of those, and even help them discern what might be worth spending their time and money on. The Variety section, which runs Monday through Friday, will be fun and entertaining, with the comics and some little oddball items thrown in that aim to brighten your day.
In order to bring you these two new sections, the Life section as we know it today is going away. Most of its popular subject matter, columnists and features are simply being folded into Variety and SheSays.
We’re also moving all the traditional news into the first section of the paper six days a week. The new A section Monday through Saturday will contain all local and regional news, a new Nation/World roundup page on A2, the Opinion page on A4, Business page and obituaries. The paper on Saturdays and Sundays will look much like it does now, except that SheSays replaces Life.
To complete this update, we’ve moved our daily Weather Page to the back of Sports (really the back of the paper) and added a national weather map and the moon phases to it. We also moved the Sudoku puzzle and bridge column there.
We’re excited about these changes to the paper, and we hope readers find them exciting, too.
