Weekend Watch: Art events
School is in session, and area museums and galleries are open for arts education. The Rourke Art Museum, 521 Main Ave., Moorhead, hosts College Night from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday. The event showcases the new Robert A. Nelson retrospective, a smart collection of pop-art drawings, paintings, prints and sculptures – sometimes all in one. The first 50 visitors get free grab bags with a vintage Nelson poster. Other deals are available. The event is free for college students. (218) 236-8861. College instructors get in on the fun with an off-campus opening Friday at ecce art + yoga, 216 Broadway, for North Dakota State University faculty David Swenson, Michael Strand, Kimble Bromley, Nate Booth, Kent Kapplinger and Eric A. Johnson. The free reception runs from 7 to 9 p.m. You don’t have to be a student to get art smart. Tag along with new Plains Art Museum, 704 1st Ave. N., Fargo, curator Megan Johnston’s “Walk and Talk” to learn more about the show “Birch Bark, Clay, Pixels, Paint,” today at 5 p.m. (701) 232-3821.
