Elderly couple injured in I-29 accidentHANKINSON, N.D. – A driver attempting to switch lanes on Interstate 29 near here was struck by another vehicle Monday afternoon.
The driver, 79-year-old Elizabeth Rabenberg from Sisseton S.D., and her husband, Maurice Rabenberg, 82, were heading north on Interstate 29 around 1 p.m. According to the Richland County Sheriff’s Office, Elizabeth Rabenberg turned left in front of a van driven by Victor Lambert, 70, of Pierson, Iowa, in order to use the crossover area. The crossover was marked “for authorized vehicles only.”
Lambert tried to slow but struck Rabenberg’s car.
The Rabenbergs were taken to St. Francis Hospital in Wahpeton and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Lambert was not injured.
Both vehicles had to be towed from the scene.
