FEMA open house set in Wilkin CountyBRECKENRIDGE, Minn. – The Federal Emergency Management Agency, in partnership with the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, will host a flood risk information open house for Wilkin County residents from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Wilkin County Recycling Center, 505 8th St. S.
Newly released preliminary digital flood insurance rate maps will be displayed so residents can learn about their flood risk and how it will affect their lives and property. Property owners, Realtors, lenders and insurance agents may drop in at any time during the event to speak with DNR and FEMA representatives.
Some residents may be required to purchase flood insurance once local communities adopt these maps. The purchase of flood insurance is required by federally insured or regulated mortgage lenders if a structure is located in a high-risk flood area.
