MSUM president: Budget is balanced, sustainableMOORHEAD – Minnesota State University Moorhead has a balanced, sustainable budget and will move forward to cautiously fill some vacancies, the president announced today.
President Edna Szymanski, leading the first campus town hall meetings for fall semester, said MSUM has successfully balanced its budget even with a $2.6 million decrease in state allocation for this year.
This is the first time Szymanski has been able to start a year at MSUM without announcing possible layoffs or cuts.
To avoid layoffs, MSUM has hired many temporary staff and faculty members in recent years. Now Szymanski said the university can cautiously look at making some of those positions permanent.
“We are fiscally sustainable today and we are sustainable, we believe, into the coming years,” Szymanski said.
