Two men record holes-in-one on same hole with same club on same day at The Meadows in Moorhead, Minn.MOORHEAD – An unusual happening at The Meadows Golf Course on Tuesday left one golf professional shocked and an area golfer “freaked out.”
Ron Torkelson of Fargo and Rick Adams of Dilworth each notched one of golf’s rare accomplishments: a hole-in-one.
But it’s the combination of the two that makes it so unusual. That’s because they each got a hole-in-one on the same golf course on the same hole with the same club on the same day.
In his sixth year as golf pro at The Meadows, Corey Herlickson said that’s the first time that has happened during his tenure.
“It’s the same tees too,” Herlickson said. “It’s a pretty rare fact.”
During a morning round, Torkelson aced the
117-yard, No. 11 hole with his pitching wedge. It was the third time he had gotten a hole-in-one on that hole alone.
Later on that day, Adams did the exact same thing. It was his first career hole-in-one.
“I was getting ready to address (the ball), and I thought, ‘I’m just going to hit a hole-in-one with this crappy ball,” Adams said. “It hit four feet in front of the hole and just rolled in.”
When Adams arrived in the clubhouse afterwards, he informed Herlickson of it. Herlickson then joked, “You had to do it on the shortest hole on the course.”
But until being contacted by The Forum, Adams had no idea that he was the second man on that day to ace that hole.
“It was probably the most excited I’ve ever been,” Adams said.
Torkelson could not be reached for comment.
“I was pretty surprised when he brought it in,” Herlickson said. “I thought, ‘Wait a minute, that’s the same (hole) as this morning.
“That’s just ridiculous. Same club too.”
