UPDATED: Authorities identify two shot at apartment complex near Dakota Magic CasinoHANKINSON, N.D. – A man and a woman were hospitalized Tuesday following a shooting at an apartment complex near Dakota Magic Casino.
The Richland County Sheriff’s Office was called to the Dakota Nations Housing Development, about a half-mile east of the casino, at about 7:45 a.m.
Anthony Hayes, 29, who lives in the apartment complex, and Kari Dumarce, 28, of Sisseton, S.D., were initially taken to a Sisseton hospital with gunshot wounds, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office.
Hayes was later taken by air ambulance to Fargo with a gunshot wound to his hand.
Dumarce was later transported to a Watertown, S.D., hospital and then to a Sioux Falls, S.D., hospital with a gunshot wound to her abdomen.
Hayes told authorities he was unloading a handgun when it accidentally went off, with a bullet striking his hand before hitting Dumarce in the abdomen.
The investigation is continuing, according to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department.
Other agencies involved in the investigation include: the North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation; the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation, Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms, SEMCA and the Sisseton Police Department.
