Man plans Lake Sakakawea swim for water awarenessNEW TOWN, N.D. — A Parshall man plans to swim across Lake Sakakawea this month to draw attention to the value of water on the Fort Berthold Reservation and to raise money for tribal youth activities.
Mark Fox tells the Minot Daily News that the region is putting too much emphasis on oil and not enough on water. He says water is the tribe's most valuable resource.
Fox is the tax director for the Three Affiliated Tribes. He has done benefit swims across Lake Sakakawea for the past five years. Last year, he swam five laps across the lake. Each lap is nearly two miles. Fox says he hopes to complete six laps this year.
