Trials set for two Lake Park-Audubon girls basketball coaches
Former head coach Andrew Patrick Schwan, 34, and former assistant coach Darrin Alan Myhre, 29, were each charged with felony fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct.
Assistant Stearns County Attorney Joshua Kannegieter said a trial date of Sept. 19 is scheduled for Schwan in Stearns County District Court.
Myhre is scheduled for trial on Oct. 10.
The two men also face misdemeanor charges of furnishing alcohol to minors and misconduct by a public employee. In addition, Schwan faces a misdemeanor charge of furnishing tobacco to a minor.
Charges were brought against the two men last September, after a Dec. 28, 2009, overnight stay at the Holiday Inn in St. Cloud. At that time, LP-A’s girls basketball team played Dec. 28 and 29 in a tournament in Upsala, 40 minutes northwest of St. Cloud.
According to criminal reports, the two coaches appeared to be under the influence of alcohol when checking on players after the 11 p.m. curfew.
Later, Schwan asked two players in a text message to come to the room he shared with Myhre. There, the men encouraged the girls to drink alcohol. Schwan also let one of the girls take a drag off his cigarette.
Later, Schwan got under bed covers with one of the girls and began touching her sexually, the court documents said.
Myhre is accused of touching one of the girls over her sports bra, telling her, “No one has to know,” before falling asleep.
Both men resigned from their jobs in February, which, according to the court documents, is when the police investigation began.
