Fireworks finale close to selling out

WEST FARGO – The finale of this year’s Pyrotechnics Guild International expo is poised to draw a sellout crowd here Friday night.

But those looking to see the dazzling display up close might want to plan ahead and prepare to be patient as they venture to and from the event.

Officials at the Red River Valley Fairgrounds are asking attendees to prepare for long lines to and from the fairgrounds.

The show began Sunday and ends Friday. Traffic concerns prompted police Wednesday to close 13th Avenue West at 10th Street West from 9 to 10:30 p.m. The road will close again tonight and Friday night.

West Fargo police said PGI safety regulations prompted the closure.

Fairgrounds Assistant Manager Jodi Buresh said reserved admission for the Friday event has sold-out, and more than 2,000 general admission tickets had already been purchased by Wednesday afternoon.

About 2,300 general admission tickets are still available for $15 at the fairgrounds box office, which opens at 9 a.m.

With at least more than 4,000 people attending Friday’s final PGI show, Buresh encouraged people to arrive early and be prepared to walk a ways from designated parking lots near the fairgrounds.

Parking lots open at 5 p.m. and spaces are available on a first-come, first-served basis. The two-hour show starts at 9 p.m.

Local law enforcement will help with traffic control after the show, but drivers should expect slow-moving traffic, Buresh said.

It could take up to 2 hours to exit the parking lots after the show, she said.
