Anderson tough down the stretch, wins her first round U.S. Amateur matchBARRINGTON, R.I. – North Dakota State golfer Amy Anderson passed her first test in the U.S. Women’s Amateur on Wednesday. She defeated Cyna Rodriguez of the Philippines 1-up.
She’ll face Moriya of Jutanugarn of Thailand in the round of 32 Thursday morning at 9:30.
Anderson took a one-hole lead with a birdie on the par-4 15th hole. She and Rodriguez both birdied the 16th and each finished with a par and 17 and 18. Anderson was 2-under in her final nine holes.
She trailed by a hole on two different occasions on the front 9, getting to all-square with a birdie on the par 3 fifth. She never trailed after that.
