Police, fire department investigating morning blaze at Fargo food market
A passerby reported seeing smoke and fire showing from the building at 1002 Main Ave. at 12:15 a.m.
Fire crews arrived at 12:18 a.m. and had the fire extinguished by 12:29 a.m., breaking out the back windows to let the heat and smoke out.
Assistant Fire Chief Larry Schuh said there was moderate fire and smoke damaged to the Kurdish store and its contents. No one was in the building at the time of the fire, he said.
Schuh said it appears someone may have broken into the store through the same window that was used during an earlier reported break-in. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, he said.
A store spokesman told KFGO radio that the store was burglarized Sunday and that the owner believes the burglar came back because the store's video security camera is missing.
Schuh said he will be contacting Fargo Cass Public Health to determine what foodstuffs inside the store are salvageable.
