Minot’s Oak Park attracting votes in online contest for $100,000 grant

MINOT, N.D. – Minot’s Oak Park was devastated by floodwaters, and putting the park back together is going to take some work and some money. Good thing Oak Park is currently first in the running for a $100,000 grant.

The park currently ranks No. 1 on Coca-Cola’s “America is Your Park” list, with more than 413,000 votes cast for it online.

In a Thursday news release, Sen. John Hoeven urged all North Dakota residents to cast a vote for the park.

The next closest park is Soudan Underground Mine State Park near Tower, Minn., with nearly 410,000 votes. Ponca State Park in Nebraska rounds out the top three, with more than 124,000 votes.

According to its website, the contest’s purpose is to “to restore, rebuild or enhance places within the park where people can play or be active.”

The contest prizes are $100,000, $50,000 and $25,000 for the first-, second- and third-place parks, respectively.

Visit http://livepositively.com/#/americasparks/vote and click on “Vote for Your Park.” Find your park on the map, click on it, and cast your vote.

You can also vote by “checking in” while at the park on Facebook or uploading a photo from the park to the Live Positively website.

Voting is open until Sept. 6.
