Mayville-Portland highway work beginsMAYVILLE, N.D. – An improvement project for 2.5 miles of Highway 200 is under way within the city limits of Mayville-Portland in Traill County.
The state Department of Transportation project includes drainage improvements, culvert extensions, shoulder widening, improved bike path, sidewalk and pedestrian crossings, increased road base thickness and a new pavement surface.
“The community will experience some congestion when we begin our blending process on the driving surface” Joe Peyerl, of the agency’s Fargo district, stated in a release. “We are increasing the structural integrity and support of the roadway, and we will then repave the asphalt to attain a stronger and smoother roadway surface for the traveling public.”
The NDDOT is now working on the shoulder widening and culvert extension on the far west end of Portland.
The roadway will remain open during improvements, Peyerl said.
Construction is estimated to be completed early fall, with the new bike path being complete by the start of school, weather permitting.
