Driver injured when van swerves to miss deer near MapletonMAPLETON, N.D. – The Cass County Sheriff’s Office says a suspected drunken driver rolled his van when he swerved to miss a deer early Monday near Mapleton, suffering a broken arm that required surgery.
The van, a 1993 Ford Aerostar, came to rest on its top in the west ditch of County Road 11 about a mile north of Mapleton, sheriff’s Deputy Lance Kitzan said.
Charles Richard Chase, 32, of Casselton, was arrested on suspicion of DUI and taken by ambulance to Sanford Medical Center in Fargo.
A male passenger was treated and released, and a female passenger who is Chase’s wife sustained minor injuries, Kitzan said. The woman was wearing her seat belt, but the two males weren’t, he said.
The accident was reported at 2:55 a.m. Monday.
