Weather service issues flood warning for Fargo-Moorhead

FARGO – The National Weather Service in Grand Forks has issued a flood warning for the southern Red River Valley.

The weather service is expecting at least an inch of rain early this week, with up to four inches by the end of the week. The flood warning was issued for the Red River at Wahpeton, N.D., and Breckenridge, Minn., and in the Fargo-Moorhead area.

Meteorologist Bill Barrett said the heavy rains could cause the Red River to rise to 24 feet in Fargo-Moorhead. Moderate flood stage is 25 feet. Monday, the river was at 17.8, just below minor flood stage of 18 feet.

The warning will stay in effect for seven days.
