Critics pick Cowboys at Ribfest; Aussom Aussie takes People's ChoiceFARGO – Cowboy’s BBQ & Rib Company snagged the Critic’s Choice Award at this year’s RibFest held at the Fargodome.
The Weatherford, Texas, ribber earned $2000 as a first place prize. Porky ‘N’ Beans, from Port St. Lucie, Fla., came in second with a prize of $1000. Third place was awarded to Desperado’s BBQ & Ribs from Hinckley, Ohio, with a prize of $500.
Aussom Aussie BBQ, from Pittsburgh, won People’s Choice Award and a prize of $500.
Ribs were judged on appearance, tenderness and taste.
This year’s judges were Jeremiah Bull Frog, DJ from Froggy 99.9, KVLY news director Griff Potter, Cole Carley, president of the FM Convention and Visitors Bureau, John Lamb, reporter at The Forum of Fargo-Moorhead and radio contest winner Nathan Meyer.
Vendors included Cowboy’s BBQ, Desperado’s BBQ, Porky ‘N’ Beans, Aussom Aussie, Willingham’s, Rasta Joe’s BBQ and Johnson’s BBQ.
Sunday is the final day of RibFest, with gates open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and no admission fee.
