Hawley gets a berth in fifth-place game at Minnesota state softball tournamentNORTH MANKATO, Minn. – Hawley bounced back from a loss in its first game to get a berth in the fifth-place at the Minnesota Class 1A state softball tournament.
Jessy Noreen pitched a complete game as Hawley defeated Osakis in consolation play 7-6 in 10 innings Thursday. Earlier in the day, Hawley lost to Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg 1-0.
Veronica Neumann had four hits for the Nuggets in the second game, while Jordy Noreen went 3-for-5 with two RBIs.
Jessy Noreen tossed a three-hitter in the loss to K-M-S in the opening round.
K-M-S broke the scoreless tie in the top of the seventh when Erin Haglund singled, advanced to third on a throwing error before scoring on Courtney Olson’s single.
Hawley threatened to tie the game in the bottom of the seventh Kelsey Aakre and Aundie Softing each singled. But with one out, Noreen lined into a double play to end the game.
Hawley, which was limited to three hits, was unable to score in the second inning when it put runners on second and third with one out.
Softing produced two of Hawley’s three hits.
