Church and state entangled again

Two very interesting topics moved forward in Minnesota and North Dakota politics these past weeks:

In North Dakota, enough signatures were gathered to put Measure 3 on the June primary election ballot. This measure says lawmakers may restrict religious behavior only if they have a compelling interest in doing so and if the regulation is done in the least-restrictive way.

Minnesota Legislature moved forward with putting up for popular vote an amendment to the state Constitution that would indicate a specific religious group that will decide who can purchase contracts from their state governments that provide legal and tax benefits to couples living in long-term, committed relationships.

So much for separation of church and state.
