Some Bismarck flood evacuations orderedAssociated Press
BISMARCK, N.D. - Authorities in Bismarck are ordering the evacuation of some neighborhoods on the Missouri River as the river's waters continue to rise.
The Southport and Whispering Bay developments are affected. Between them they have several dozen homes. Both are near the east bank of the Missouri in southwestern Bismarck.
Bismarck Police Chief Keith Witt said residents are being notified Saturday. He said continued flooding means the city can't assure neighborhood residents of emergency services, such as police and fire protection.
North of Mandan, Morton County Commissioner Bruce Strinden says the rising water forced officials to cut off power to about 35 homes near the river, north of Square Butte Creek.
Strinden said the action was “simply a matter of absolute necessity and public safety.”
