UPDATED: Power restored to 3,000 Xcel customers in downtown Fargo, Minnesota communitiesFARGO – Power was restored by 2:15 this afternoon for about 3,000 Xcel customers in downtown Fargo and several Minnesota communities after a cable failure.
The outage occurred about 12:50 p.m., after early reports of a fire at a transformer near NP Avenue and 10th Street in Fargo, said Bonnie Lund, Xcel spokeswoman.
Electricity was out along parts of Main, NP and First avenues in Fargo, and in Baker, Comstock, Dilworth, Glyndon, Sabin and Wolverton.
Lund said winds are a continuing problem this week, but it was unclear whether they were to blame for today’s outage.
A powerful windstorm on Monday knocked out power for about 39,000 customers.
