More than 26,000 in Fargo, West Fargo without power

FARGO – Thousands of customers were without power Monday night after severe thunderstorms and high winds moved through the metro.

Xcel Power crews were working to restore electricity to more than 26,000 homes in Fargo and West Fargo, spokeswoman Bonnie Lund said in an email.

Power outages were also reported in rural Cass County and Moorhead.

Cass County Electric reported outages in the Leonard, Oxbow, Kindred and Colfax areas immediately following the storm, but power was restored by 10:30 p.m.

About 280 people near Kindred and 75 near Gardner remained without power as of 10:30 p.m., said Carrie Carney, a Cass Electric spokeswoman.

Moorhead Public Service didn’t have an accurate count on the number of outages throughout the city, but crews were working to assess damage.

Moorhead lost power for several minutes, according to an MPS news release issued late Monday. "Several dozen Moorhead residents remain without power," the release said. "MPS crews continue working to restore power throughout the community."

Xcel, MPS and Cass County Electric were encouraging customers to report all outages.
