North Dakota company investigating broken wind turbine bladeMINOT, — Basin Electric Power Cooperative is investigating the cause of a broken wind turbine blade on a tower near Minot.
The Minot Daily News reports that the wind turbine failure happened April 30 during a storm with high winds.
Spokesman Daryl Hill says a replacement blade is expected to arrive in early June. He says the company is waiting for a crane and for road restrictions to be lifted.
Hill says a wind turbine blade weighs more than 7 tons.
The damaged wind turbine is one of 82 wind turbines between Minot and Max. The company says it's the first time it has had a wind turbine fail.
