Dayton seeks disaster status for 20 Minn. counties

ST. PAUL – Minnesota Gov. Mark Dayton has sent a letter to President Barack Obama requesting a major federal disaster declaration for 20 Minnesota Counties affected by spring flooding, including Clay and Wilkin counties.

Preliminary damage assessments revealed $10.8 million in costs and damages.

If the president declares a major disaster, the Federal Emergency Management Agency will fund 75 percent of approved costs.

Dayton said he will recommend to the legislature that the state fully fund the remaining 25 percent share.
