Corps to raise levees in Hendrum, Minn.ST. PAUL — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers says levees were being raised 2 feet on Monday in Hendrum to protect against the rising Wild Rice River.
The corps says the Wild Rice was at an elevation of 32.65 feet Monday morning and quickly rising. Levees in the city already have been built to 37.75 feet.
Work to raise the levees 2 feet will be done by a contractor. Road closures also being done. The corps says the work is being done at the request of local officials.
The Wild Rice flows though the city and empties into the Red River.
The National Weather Service expects the Wild Rice to crest at 33.5 feet on Thursday.
