Search renewed for missing Fargo man

FARGO – The search for a 39-year-old Fargo man, missing for the past four months, was renewed this week with hopes melting snow may improve the prospect of finding him.

Lt. Joel Vettel said four searchers began looking for Corey Ray Johnson on Monday and continued on Tuesday, planning to cover the Osgood neighborhood in southwest Fargo.

Police say Johnson was last seen Dec. 1, the day he walked away from a home he shares with his brother in the 1000 block of 21st Street South.

Vettel said family told police that Johnson had talked about hurting himself in the days before he was last seen and specifically spoke about doing so in the Osgood neighborhood.

The search crew of police volunteers and employees of the Fargo Park District are checking newly snow-free areas near the Osgood Golf Course, traveling the territory on four-wheelers.

“We just don’t have any other leads,” Vettel said.

Vettel said there are no indications of foul play or that Johnson left town.

Johnson is a white male, 6 feet tall, 280 pounds with brown hair and blue eyes. He was last seen wearing a light brown Columbia coat, a light brown hat and dark blue gloves, police say.

Vettel said anyone who spots any sign of Johnson is urged to call Fargo police at (701) 235-5593.
