2008 gas leak at ND beet plant sparks lawsuitGRAND FORKS — A man who says he was injured three years ago by a sulfur dioxide gas leak at a sugar beet processing plant in North Dakota wants three companies to pay for unspecified medical expenses and lost wages.
Fifty-six-year-old contractor Conrad Rostvet is suing Minnesota-based American Crystal Sugar Co., Michigan-based Lock City Transportation Inc. and Pennsylvania-based Smart-Hose Technologies Inc.
The Grand Forks Herald reports that American Crystal denies the allegations and in court documents blames Lock City Transportation for the leak. That company and Smart-Hose Technologies have not yet responded to the lawsuit.
The 2008 leak at the American Crystal plant at Hillsboro prompted the evacuation of about 225 people. Twenty-one people went to local hospitals.
