Boy, 4, killed when hit by snowplowing dad

AKELEY, Minn. – A Hubbard County family is mourning the death of a 4-year-old boy whose father accidentally backed over him while plowing snow.

Relatives say Kyle Vredenburg was riding his bicycle Thursday when he headed near where his father was plowing. The boy’s uncle, Marv Vredenburg, says Kyle’s sister tried to call him back but it was too late.

The uncle says Kyle died en route to an airport where he was to be flown to a Fargo hospital.

Marv Vredenburg tells KSAX-TV the family asks for support during their mourning. He says they want everyone to know it was an accident.

Hubbard County Sheriff Cory Aukes says he’s not planning to seek charges against the father. He says it was a tragic event, and “you can’t help but feel for the family.”
