K-12 Notebook: Area teams compete in Minnesota State Knowledge Bowl
The teams are from Fergus Falls, Moorhead, Battle Lake, Hillcrest Academy in Fergus Falls and Park Christian School in Moorhead, according to Susan Ward, state Knowledge Bowl coordinator.
More than 800 teams competed in Minnesota to be among the 48 teams at the state meet. There are 24 teams in each of the “A” (smaller school) and “AA” (larger school) divisions.
Battle Lake was first in the A division at the regional meet recently in Fergus Falls. Team members are D.J. Cline, Aaron Butler, Aaron Burton, Ryan Olson, and Gabriel Wicklund. The team is coached by Brian Fitzgerald.
Hillcrest Academy took second place in the A division with team members Chris Bigelow, Chad Hermes, Jared Kugler, Jaron Olsoe, Jordan Konynenbelt and Kathleen Martinson. The team is coached by Jane Uggerud.
First place in the AA division went to Moorhead with team members Louis Sand, Austin Hauf, Graham Stoltenow, Henny Dobbs and Andrew Carlson. The team is coached by Audrey Erickson and Eric Tollefson.
Fergus Falls placed second in AA with team members Andrew Banal, Reece Denzel, Jordan Rasmussen, Eddie Roberts and Daniel Schneck, coached by Hal Johnson.
Park Christian took third in AA. Team members are Dirk Jasperse, Matt Lee, Josh Heideman, Haleigh Larson and Sam Quanbeck. The team is coached by Amy Rogness.
History Day, the sequel
The West Central History Day competition will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Hawley (Minn.) High School.
The school is at 714 Joseph St.
The event was rescheduled and moved last week due to the late winter storm that hit the region.
The basketball cheerleading team at Northern Cass School in Hunter has received the 2010-11 North Dakota Cheer Coach Association Team Scholar Award. Team members posted a cumulative grade point average of 3.645.
To be eligible for the award, the team needed a cumulative GPA of 3.20 or higher.
Park Christian banquet
Park Christian School will hold its 30th Annual Banquet and Auctions from 4 to 9 p.m. April 2 at the Ramada Plaza Suites, 1635 42nd St. S., Fargo.
A silent auction and reception runs from 4 to 6 p.m.; dinner and program, 6 to 8 p.m.; live auction, 8 to 8:30 p.m.; and dessert and worship, 8:30 to 9 p.m.
The program will include testimonies and an opportunity to make a financial gift. Proceeds will benefit the students and programs at Park Christian.

The Cass County Farm Bureau is offering four $1,000 college scholarships to 2011 graduating seniors from any of the high schools in Cass County.
The only requirement is that the student be the child or grandchild of a Cass County Farm Bureau member in good standing.
