Minnesota man killed in ski accidentWELCH, Minn. — A skier has died after hitting a chair lift tower post at Welch Village Ski Area in southeastern Minnesota.
Goodhue County Sheriff Scott McNurlin says 65-year-old George Conway of LaCrescent was fatally injured Wednesday when he apparently lost control while skiing and hit the tower.
The Star Tribune reports Welch Village staffers, sheriff's deputies and land and air ambulances came to Conway's aid, but he died at the scene.
An autopsy will be conducted.
It was Minnesota's second ski death of the year. Last month, 12-year-old Trent Stellrecht of Grantsburg, Wis., died when he ran into a tree line on a run at Duluth's Spirit Mountain.
