Trial set in fatal crash on North Dakota reservation

FORT TOTTEN, N.D. – Trial has been scheduled April 12 for a 19-year-old woman accused of driving drunk and causing a crash on the Spirit Lake Nation reservation that killed her younger sister.

The Grand Forks Herald reports that Carolynn BigTrack has pleaded not guilty to involuntary manslaughter and three counts of assault resulting in serious bodily injury.

Federal prosecutor Janice Morley says BigTrack lost control of her vehicle on April 21, 2010, and it skidded into the other lane and struck an oncoming vehicle. BigTrack’s 16-year-old sister, Mary Feather BigTrack, died later in the day at a Devils Lake hospital, and two other passengers in BigTrack’s vehicle and the driver of the other vehicle were seriously injured.
