Heitkamp won’t have surgery for brain tumor

FARGO – Radio host and former state senator Joel Heitkamp says doctors have advised him not to have surgery to remove a non-cancerous brain tumor, according to a news release today from KFGO radio.

Instead, Heitkamp, 49, says doctors will keep a close eye on the tumor on the left side of his brain, the news release stated.

Heitkamp, host of KFGO’s “News and Views,” was at home with his family Feb. 20 when he lay down to take a nap and had a seizure, he said last week. Tests revealed a benign brain tumor.

He said then that he expected to have surgery soon and that the recovery was expected to take six to eight weeks.
