Five airplanes to join search for Lisbon man

If the weather allows it, the Civil Air Patrol plans to use five planes to search in southeast North Dakota today for a missing 78-year-old from Lisbon, N.D.

An air search Wednesday for Leon Weight, a vulnerable adult last seen Feb. 17, was scrubbed due to low cloud cover. Three planes – one each from Bismarck, Grand Forks and Fargo – were to join that effort.

Only the Bismarck plane was able to take off, and inclement weather forced it to land shortly after arriving at the search area, said Lisbon Police Chief Jeanette Persons. Today’s planned air search is hoped to include five planes, including two from South Dakota, Persons said.

Four Air Patrol volunteers conducted a ground search for about five hours north of Oakes, N.D., and toward Interstate 29 on Wednesday, but they didn’t find any sign of Weight, Persons said.

Anyone who sees Weight or his car, a 1991 red Pontiac Grand Prix with North Dakota plates HKP 260, is urged to call Persons at (701) 683-4141.
