Still no sign of missing Lisbon man

LISBON, N.D. - Leon Weight was last seen about 8 p.m. Thursday when a state trooper gave him directions to Lisbon, N.D., where he lives.

He had driven to Oakes, N.D., that afternoon to buy birdseed.

When helped by the trooper, it wasn’t realized that the 78-year-old man, described as a vulnerable adult, was missing. Weight was heading south on Highway 281.

Searchers have found no sign of Weight or his 1991 red Pontiac Grand Prix since he was last seen.

“Absolutely nothing,” Lisbon Police Chief Jeanette Persons said Monday.

Investigators are baffled. “It’s as if he just literally drove off the face of the earth,” Persons said. “You just don’t know. I mean, he could be in Nebraska for all we know.”

Weight has no cell phone. He has not been in contact with family or friends since his disappearance.

He suffers from depression and anxiety, but was believed to be in good spirits when last seen, Persons said.

The Civil Air Patrol has offered to conduct an air search.

Anyone who has seen Weight or his vehicle, which has North Dakota plates HKP-260, is asked to call Persons at (701) 683-4141.
