Chiefs Day event Feb. 23 in White EarthWHITE EARTH, Minn. – An event observing Chiefs Day is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Feb. 23 at the White Earth Community Center.
Attendees will be able to learn about the character and history of Ojibwe chiefs who represented Ojibwe people and land during treaty negotiations and agreements in the 1800s.
Anton Treuer, professor of languages and Ojibwe studies at Bemidji State University, will be the guest speaker. He will discuss his new book, “The Assassination of Hole in the Day,” as well as the various types of treaties and their contemporary relevance.
