Forum’s silence on cuts in funding is deafening

The Forum has been oddly silent on the Republican Study Committee proposal to cut funding for certain farming subsidies. The RSC is specifically targeting organic farmers, sugar growers and an export promotion program that benefits fruit and vegetable growers. These cuts are small compared to the subsidies for cotton, soy, corn, rice and wheat, which were conveniently left off the cutting room floor.

Congressman Rick Berg, R-N.D., whom The Forum endorsed in the last campaign, serves on this committee. You would think that Berg would understand that sugar beet farming is a large industry in the Red River Valley. But once again the congressman puts the Republican Party above his constituents and is putting many families, and the economy of the Red River Valley, at risk.

I wonder how The Forum would’ve covered the story had it been Earl Pomeroy, whom The Forum did not endorse, who had made this recommendation.

In regard to The Forum’s coverage, the silence is deafening.
